By Walid’s one-of-a-kind fabric art pieces originated as the creative output of a collaboration between Walid and environmental artist Kumiko Tani, who has worked at Walid’s side for many years, handling special projects and accessories.
Having been displayed at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, with one on permanent display at the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts. These witty companions have now amassed a cult collector following. Walid is renowned for taking a zero-waste approach to his artful creations, and these unusual sculptures are no different. The British-Iraqi designer repurposes historical antique materials and can take up to six months to create – such is the careful craftsmanship and attention to detail – and becomes more vivid as the creative process progresses. Each hand-dyed and intricately stitched piece tells its own unique story and is set on a sturdy steel base, ready to be a characterful focal point in your home.
